ANNOUNCEMENTS / Press releases:

Our next monthly visit to the State Archives in Roeland Street, Cape Town, will be on Saturday morning 5 March 2011 from 09:00 to 13:00.

A special meeting will take place on Saturday 12 March from 10:00 to about 15:00 in one of the Bellville Library halls in order to make certain amendments to the Island Society’s constitution and to give a founder member from George, Les Johnstone, the opportunity to share his mountain of research, documents (including photographs), insights and tips with fellow members. Les and his wife have both been accredited as Robben Island researchers with the State Archives in Cape Town and the SA Library. His field of special interest is the staff working on RI in the period 1900-1930. More details will be made known as soon as the venue has been confirmed.

  1. Ursula Edith Smith (nee Dreyer) says:

Would it be possible to contact Mr Les Johnstone via email. I am the grand daughter of Justus Wilhelm Dreyer who was employed as government chemist on Robben Island in the period 1900-1930 and would love to discuss any history with Mr Johnstone. I live in Australia so am unable to attend any meetings held in South Africa. Thank you for your assistance. Ursula Smith nee Dreyer
